Jack thought anyone who read couldn't be all that bad.

About This Quote

Jack thought anyone who read couldn't be all that bad. When Jack was in high school he decided to take a creative writing class. He was so good at writing that he impressed everyone in the class and they all wanted to know more about him. He decided to join the class and they immediately noticed his talent for writing.

They all wanted to know more about Jack so he decided to give them a sample of his work. At first, everyone in class was very impressed with Jack’s story and they all thought that he was a great writer. After the class, however, it quickly became apparent that Jack’s talent was nothing special.

What is interesting is that when Jack’s classmates were reading the story they were all fooled by it and they all thought it was amazing. They couldn’t believe how good it was until they compared it to their own stories and realized how horrible it actually was. This is a perfect example of what I like to call the Dunning-Kruger Effect: people who think they’re pretty good at something tend to assume that everyone around them thinks they are pretty good at it too, while people who are actually good at something assume everyone else thinks they are not very good at it.
